Dr. Nirgude Bungalow, located at Nasik Road in Nashik, is a visually immersive residence designed by Within Without, led by Architect Shailesh Devi. The project integrates large-scale visual art into key areas of the home — the Dining Room, Family Sitting Area, and Bedrooms — with a distinct theme of illusion and reflection shaping the spatial narrative.
In the Dining Area, a bold visual of an overblown ripple on the Godavari River takes center stage. This striking image plays beautifully with the reflective surface of the Italian marble flooring, creating an illusion of depth and movement that captures the viewer’s curiosity and adds a poetic dimension to the space.
The Family Sitting Area features a black-and-white composition of traditional terracotta ‘brick jali’, chosen to complement the exposed concrete cylindrical form of the room. This artwork not only blends seamlessly with the architectural materials but also creates the illusion of filtered light seeping through, enhancing both the ambiance and the sense of spatial continuity.
In the Bedrooms, sepia-toned blooming leaf compositions bring in a gentle, organic rhythm. These visuals echo the home’s material palette, offering a refreshing and subtly surprising effect that aligns beautifully with the overall interior theme.
This residence demonstrates how scale, tone, and placement can turn visual art into a powerful architectural element. By using illusion and reflection as core ideas, the home blurs the boundaries between art and space, evoking intrigue, emotion, and visual delight.
